The Noble House
—from God’s Wakeup Call by Nancy Hilton
There was a noble house of the Lord. The Noble Lord was wise in the region and knew his responsibility was great. He listened to his people and made decisions with deep wisdom. His esteem was large because his virtue was well known and his fairness always apparent. He loved his people, and his laws became a way of life. People were happy in their work. His wisdom came from seeking the good in others; his thoughts were of a higher, nobler dimension. His demeanor was somber at times, but mostly he smiled and laughed with those he served. He was saddened when people would not let him help; when that happened he would wipe away his tears of disappointment and go on to other work and other people.
Then one day a visitor appeared and tore down his house with words of censure, criticism, and calamity. The visitor said, “Life is too good and too many people are happy—this is not the way of the world. Look at disease, decay and destruction; look at the killings, earthquakes, and famine. Change your lives, people of this kingdom, for the Noble Lord has deceived you into believing life is happy, quiet, and filled with love and peace. Wake up to the real world and be deceived no more.”
The Noble Lord was appalled. The peace his people had long enjoyed was splintered by the fear the visitor foretold. Because they believed him, they began to hide in fear of one another and to shut their minds. The Noble Lord pleaded with them to look again and see the true value of their lives with each other and with him, to remember the way it was just a short while ago. But the people grumbled. They saw the riches of others and coveted them—clothes and fine jewelry—and embraced the vices of the world. They forgot that they already possessed everything. Now they hoarded and stockpiled, amassing great fortunes and building walls around their houses and their lives. They forgot to ask the Noble Lord to help them find the better answer; they thought they knew it all.
Suddenly everything stopped. All was quiet. The people began to shake and shimmer; their forms vanished and reappeared. They could no longer focus on each other; they became shapeless and without substance—only clothes and jewelry remained. Emptiness became complete. Tears leaked from their eyes. Their hearts began to open, and they started to remember the time of the Noble Lord when wisdom and love were the standard and all lived together in peace.
“What happened?” they asked. “Where had we lost that precious time?” Many sat together and talked of life, of security, safety, and love. They remembered that sanctuary must come from the Lord God, the noblest House of them all. By following his standards—seek and ye shall find—they began to turn their hearts back to him.
It is my prayer that these stories will challenge you to think about the different aspects of your life. You can find links to these stories in the description. I’m also a watercolor artist, and after my miracle I felt compelled to include Jesus Christ in my paintings. That’s why I created HiltonArtist.com, where you can download any of these watercolors for your personal use — free.
