Do You Keep God’s Commandments?
A short story by Nancy Goldberg Hilton
What is the effect of sin? How does it break down your body? How does it first show up in your thoughts and then in your actions? How do you feel afterward — good, bad, or nothing at all?
Will your choices affect your family? Does a single decision have an impact on society? Can you think beyond your own selfish reasons and see the long-term effect on your life and on others?
If you take what does not belong to you, have you destroyed your own self-worth? If you murder or harm another human, is there an eternal debt to be paid? Do the decisions you make now affect your life afterward? Can you feel the pain, or are you numb?
Whose responsibility is this mess? It is yours. You are the one who committed the act — you must pay and take responsibility. Maybe you think you can get away with it, but think again: there is payment to be made beyond this life. In the next world the demands of God’s justice must be met, for you will be judged based on your deeds on this earth.
Do you want to be remembered with hate or with love? Do you want to destroy or to help? The choice belongs to you.
