Choose Love not Hate
Choose God not Satan
A short story by Nancy Hilton
There once was an old man. His life had been hard, his family gone, and his friends as well. So, what did he have except bitterness. He had hate! Yes, that is what he substituted for love – he hated everyone and everything.
He went out with his gun and shot small animals, then bigger ones. But he hated people most of all. They did not like him and made him feel isolated and alone.
One day, as he contemplated how to dispel his feeling of hatred, he gathered guns and ammunition and put them in his car. Who could he kill? Would it finally release him from this overwhelming feeling of hate? Maybe he could just pick someone out of a crowd? Maybe the whole crowd? Why not?
So, he went to a mall and looked around. People were smiling. Families were holding hands with small children. Could he really hate so much as to kill so many beautiful people? Yes, he thought. Why not? His urge to just kill and hate overwhelmed him.
But suddenly, he stopped. All was quiet. An angel of the Lord appeared in front of him. You have a choice. Choose God, not Satan. Choose love not hate. Stop your own destruction as well as theirs. Choose now your future here and in eternity.
The man could feel the love emanating from the angel. Would he choose everlasting life that was glorious or darkness and regret?
