A Tall Man
By Nancy Goldberg Hilton
There once was a man who was so tall that he towered over everyone.
His height always bothered him.
He was teased as a boy and also as a man.
However, he had one great thing he could always count on, everyone looked up
to him or should I say at him!
So, what do you do if you are that tall?
You can be like a tall building that superman can leap over.
You can be a famous basketball player.
You can rescue cats in trees, find lost kites, and almost reach the clouds that drift
by.
You can see over all the people that pass you by.
You can warn them of danger as you can see farther than they can.
You can see clearly as no one can block your view.
Isn’t this great.
Isn’t this marvelous to see beyond and above others.
Maybe not.
You would miss the small, everyday objects, that inhabit the earth.
You would pass by those that smile.
You would not see the dime that was left on the side-walk.
You would not see the hop-scotch game that was drawn and the kids jumping in
and out.
If you keep your head too high above others, you will miss so much.
Then one day he met a tall woman who was also holding her head up high looking
at the clouds.
They actually bumped into each other.
Their eyes met and held.
Thoughts danced inside their heads.
Could this person be my friend, my companion, my future?
Could I begin to have a normal life with a family and friends? Would my life be
less lonely?
A smile lit up on both of their faces.
A longing look was shared between them.
Sometimes it takes a bump to wake us up and bring us back to earth.
Sometimes it takes a trauma to awaken in us a need for others.
Sometimes, fate intervenes and provides the answers to prayers.
Sometimes life cannot be lived looking at the clouds.
